Welcome to the X-Men: ReAwakening!

Two women stood on the sidewalk looking up. The younger, in her late 30's, had one hand on the older woman's shoulder, the other hand shielding her eyes from the sun. She had bright red hair and pale perfect skin, her flowy rust colored dress catching in the wind to play around her thighs. The old woman was just that, an old woman, her halo of curly white hair blowing in the light wind, her hand on a knobbly cane, her clothes simple and clean. But power radiated out from her as they looked up and up and up the tall building in front of them.

People flowed around them, never quite touching them, not seeing them either, everyone found an excuse to look elsewhere, to go around them, just as they did the massive building. For 10 years it had appeared on no map, had been seen by no person, no photographs included it, it simply did not exist. It was unplottable. Even those that knew of it's existence simply couldn't remember where it was, they could try, trace the familiar paths they took to get there, but the paths would lead to other places, their eyes show them other things.

"Are you sure you're strong enough Dàki dey?" the younger woman asked.

The old woman made a scoffing sound, "It's not revealing it that takes work child, it's hiding it for nearly ten years."

"But the backlash, are you sure your body can take it?" Her voice held all her fear for the older woman.

"Cameo, I am Donya the Keeper, child of Gaia, as the shadows do your bidding child of Hades, this will do mine," there was a fierceness in her intense blue eyes, but she removed her granddaughter's hand from her shoulder.

Cameo felt the flexing of power, holding herself as though cold as she stood there in the summer sun and watched as Donya reached out one hand to touch the building.

The moment her flesh touched the warm glass, the Tower reappeared with an almost audible pop as the roiling power burst and flowed down and through the old woman. Cameo knew that only she and those sensitive to the power would have heard it, but it was enough, enough would know that something had happened here, and would come to investigate.

Donya staggered, leaning heavily on her cane, her other hand flat on the glass, her head bowed. All power came at a cost.

Cameo ran forward, but she had to push her way between the people, whereas before they had moved out of her way, now they seemed intent on blocking her passage. When the Tower was released Donya had revealed them as well. With a small scream of frustration Cameo tapped her own abilities and she took a step, using the shadow of a tourist to step from where she was to her grandmother's side in the lee of the building.

"Are you alright?" she asked worriedly.

Donya laughed softly, her voice tired but rueful, "Awe the arrogance of old women, I will be fine, but take me inside, I need rest and I am sure there is much to be done."

Okay so some of you might have thought I disappeared of had abandoned you all. But I promise that is not the case! I have been thinking about you all a lot lately.

As a reminder Fall+Apple=Release, Release+Working for Apple=Ridiculous Overtime, Ridiculous Overtime+Getting House Ready for Appraisal=Mush Brain for the Savannah

The iphone 6/6+ and iOS 8 release hadn't even calmed down by the time they announced the new iPads and Mac OS. In other words I am doing two 50 hour weeks.... again.

But the good news is that the end is in sight... I swear... for realies this time. And yes, I mean for realies, it's more real than just for real. Yes I am tired already and probably didn't need to explain that....

All that said expect to see a new post start from me in the next 2 days(I know I said that a month ago, but I have my mojo back now and am ready to write!) Once all the new posts are started for the time jump I am commiting to 2 passes a day. I can't promise more than that, not until I have a brain that's made of something other than pudding, but until I drop back down to PT that's my commitment to you.

I hope all of you are still interested in writing, are excited about the prospect of new posts and schemes and story arcs.

I hope all of your lives are far less crazed and hectic than mine is!

» Sandbox

Posted on Fri Mar 21st, 2014 @ 9:51am by Magdalena Somerset aka "Maggie Locke" in Sim Announcement

Alright everyone, I am going to be adding a new article to the wiki called Sandbox. This is something I have been rolling around for a while in an effort to provide new writers with a more dynamic world to write in and old writers with a new toy to play with. Each writer who has an awakened char (this doesn't have to mean a full awakening, a glimmering and discussion of when your char will awaken is enough) will be offered a sandbox to play in that is theirs to do with as they please, within the bounds of the world I have introduced mind you.

What is a Sandbox? In short, it's a city. Maybe you want your hometown, or where you live now, or that place you've always wanted to visit but never had the time. The rules are simple, it must be a city that you know well enough to help writers whose chars are passing through, and you must check with me on any major happenings past me before you run off with them.

You will be given one adult NPC with a basic and limited powerset. This is something I will come up with but will work with you on to make sure it fits the char you have in mind. And then the city is yours, you can work for the mutant underground helping funnel mutant refugees and sympathizers out of major cities and into safer homes, or work for Nexus ferreting out the resistance, or just stand by and watch as things unfold around you.

There are no posting requirements for your Sandbox, there are only two things you must be willing to do. First, be available to and work with any writer who is passing through your city to help them engage in the world. This includes writing your NPC as well as any other non-powered NPC needed. Second, you must maintain a wiki page for your city with any major happenings that differ from our history. Ex: The slagging of the tower in Atlanta.

And no one is required to take on a Sandbox. After reading this if you're interested send me a note and we can start working on putting together your sandbox.

Points to remember:
1. This is still my world. Mutants are the extreme minority. It is a recessive gene and has been hunted for 100's of years by various enemies. The world is terrified of mutations and your own grandmother would turn you in.
2. Nexus has started offering large cash rewards for information that results in the capture of mutants, so if your grandmother wouldn't turn you in out of love, she might turn you in for the money.
3. Mutants have no rights under the law. Though not expressly stated at a federal level yet, most states fall into one of three categories. The most lenient have a don't ask don't tell for those with an inactive x-gene, but if you are found to have an x-gene, active or not, you are required to pay a fine and must leave the state. Others have a law on the books that classifies those with an inactive x-gene as non-human, though animal cruelty laws still apply, those with an active x-gene are considered criminals to be turned over to nexus immediately. The worst states have a law on the books that states anyone exhibiting a physical mutation is considered armed and dangerous and it is legal to kill them on sight without provocation. (you and I will work to decide what laws are in place for your state)
4. If more than one person want the same city we will have to find a compromise. This is not first come first serve, we are all friends and I think that there will be plenty of room for everyone to have fun with this.
5. The wiki is critical, both for new writers and me. I will be checking the wiki once a month to see if any updates have been made. If a post is released with something major happening and the wiki is not updated within 30 days with at least a blurb about it, we will need to discuss whether or not you can keep up with a Sandbox.
6. Any mutants you do mention need to be kept generic. I am a huge believer in everyone having their niche, it would be no fun for me to give a powerset to someone and then have it pop up as an NPC and the last thing you want to do is limit me when it comes to thinking of a powerset for new chars.
7. This is supposed to be FUN! If you aren't having fun doing it all you have to do is tell me, you aren't required to keep a Sandbox once you take it.

Okay I think that's it for now. Please message me with any questions.

» Credit where Credit is Due

Posted on Tue Aug 27th, 2013 @ 9:06am by Magdalena Somerset aka "Maggie Locke" in Sim Announcement

Nova has been having an issue for a while that when I post items it removes some of the writers from the post, it seems to only happen on posts that are broken up into multiple parts so I think it has something to do with saving the various parts.

I have gone through all the posts I just released and fixed them on the site so that they correctly reflect the writers involved in the posts and will be keeping an eye on things to make sure everyone gets the credit they should. But if anyone sees a post that comes out with names missing just let Tina or I know and we can fix it in a jiffy!

» Wiki Updated

Posted on Wed Jun 12th, 2013 @ 9:19am by Magdalena Somerset aka "Maggie Locke" in Website Update

As some of you know I have been working diligently to update our site's Wiki page with important information for writers both those already in the sim and those that are new.

Some of these articles will be familiar to a lot of you, they were adapted (with permission) from articles Don wrote a number of years ago. This was a very hard process for me emotionally as I was going through and replacing references to Shayne with references to me (which Don gleefully supplied.)

This, more then anything, has brought home the loss of a dear friend. There were moments where I simply had to stop because to continue would make me feel like I really was trying to replace him.

I will never be the GM that Shayne was, I will never be able to navigate the twisting pathways of that wonderfully devious mind that we all loved. But what I can do is provide something close, a rich game, a new twist, and a world full of as many surprises as I can muster, I can use his concept to bring the people he cared about for so many years together.

Now on to the point of this announcement, if everyone could wander over to the wiki when you get a chance there are pages you might all like to see!
